Annual Faculty Advising

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do Engineering-Unaffiliated students have to attend faculty advising?

No, unaffiliated students do not need to attend a mandatory session. Unaffiliated students may want to attend the sessions for the majors they are considering changing into. It's also important to meet regularly with your academic counselor to ensure you are making proper progress toward your major of choice. Remember that you need to declare a major by the time you attain 90 units. Look at www.due.uci.edu for change of major requirements. Students that are interested in an engineering major might consider signing up for Engr 1: Introduction to Engineering. Engr 1 is a one unit course introducing students to the engineering fields and the profession.

Do I need to attend faculty advising if I'm planning on changing my major?

Since you are technically still in the major, it is best to attend faculty advising or you may get a hold on your record. If you change your major out of engineering prior to your advising date, then you don't need to attend. If you change to a different engineering major, plan on attending the session that you were originally scheduled for unless you get a notice to the contrary.

I missed faculty advising, what do I do now?

Students that miss faculty advising should check the Student Affairs homepage and their email for news of any make-up sessions. Students that miss make-up sessions will need to contact their undergraduate representative directly to schedule make-up advising.

Students should be aware that missing faculty advising will result in a hold on their academic record that will prevent them from adding or dropping classes, enrolling in future classes, or paying their fees. Holds will be lifted after students present confirmation that advising has been completed.

Requirements

All engineering students are required to meet with a faculty advisor each year. Students must complete faculty advising per the above schedule or have a record hold placed. A record hold will prevent you from registering for classes. Student Affairs will be tracking all student participation.

Students will need to submit a half-sheet Faculty Advising Confirmation form with your name, Student ID, and the faculty signature or stamp to the Student Affairs Office. Your attendance will then be registered. The form will be provided at the advising session or you can get one in the Student Affairs Office.

Students can check, at any time, their advising schedule and their attendance status by signing into this site by selecting 'Sign In' to the right. If you have submitted a completed form to Student Affairs and after 48 hours it does not report 'You have completed faculty advising', please contact Student Affairs in the event that there was a problem processing the paperwork.

Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering: Premedical

Everyday (from Wednesday, February 2nd through Tuesday, February 8th) 4:00-4:30pm or 4:30-5:00pm. All sessions will be held in EG 3161 with the exception of Friday, February 4th, those meetings will be held in EG 3311.

  1. Each session will be 30 minutes. You only have to attend one session. If you have class during these hours, your professor will allow you to miss class as they are all aware of this policy.
  2. You do not need to sign up for a session, just choose the time that works for your schedule.
  3. There will be a sign-up sheet at the door and you will be given a 'completed' slip for your attendance.
  4. You must take this slip to the HSSOE Student Affairs Office in order to fulfill the requirement. Please keep in mind that this is MANDATORY.
  5. If you DO NOT attend the session your registration for the Spring 2005 quarter will be blocked.

Biomedical Engineering: Premedical will not need to attend, and will instead attend a workshop created specifically for premedical students, to be announced later.
