Fall 2004 Breadth Changes

Effective Fall 2004, the UCI breadth requirements will change to the following:

Category VI (Foreign Language)
The language requirement requires the completion of three quarters in the same language (1C level competency.)
Category VII-B (International and Global Issues)
This requirement consists of two courses to focus on international and global issues. 2A language courses may be applied to VII-B.

Students graduating in Fall 2004 or later may elect to meet this breadth requirement rather than the current breadth requirement without having to adopt 2004-2005 degree requirements for their major. That is, the Fall 2004 breadth requirements may be applied retroactively to all existing Catalogue years.

Students are reminded that they are expected to graduate upon completing degree requirements and are expected to make normal progress toward their degree.

Students that have already completed Category VI, perhaps by taking 4 years of a single language in high-school, see no impact from this.

Students are encouraged to meet with their academic counselor before deviating from their program of study.
