Students involved in scientific research is encourage to participate in the Fifteenth Science Conference of Sigma Chapter, Graduate Women in Science (GWIS). The event is schedule for Saturday, March 13, 2004, at California State University, Fullerton. In the following degree categories: Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D, the best presentation will be given a $300 award. If there are four or more participants in a category, then a second-place award of $200 will be made.
Eligibility Requirements
- Any students who can document that the research was carried out within the past two years at or under the auspices of a college, university, or other degree-granting institution located in Southern California.
- The student must have played an integral role in the research project that is presented.
- A letter supporting the student's research and presentation must be obtained from an individual who supervised the research. The letter should verify that the research was carried on during the past two years at one of the kinds of institutions mentioned above.
- An abstract of 250 words (or less) must be written, which states the hypothese, describes the experimental protocol, presents results substantiated by data, and gives conclusions reached.
- Each student will give a ten-minute slide, overhead, or PowerPoint presentation to the judges and audience.
- Certificates and awards will be presented after judging is completed.
- An entry fee of $10 includes attendance at the conference, food, and entrance in the competition for one researcher. Please use the following registration form to enter.
