Student Responsibilities
- Be proactive. Do your research and come prepared to your advising appointments with questions and discussion items.
- Be courteous and respectful towards staff and peers.
- Do your part. Check important deadlines, check your degree requirements, prerequisites, and the Engineering Teaching Plan. If you are unsure about anything, check with an academic advisor.
- Remember that YOU are responsible for fulfilling your degree requirements successfully and for making well informed decisions.
- Seek help before a situation becomes a crisis.
Advisor Responsibilities
- Help you explore your goals.
- Discuss your academic performance and possible implications.
- Be knowledgeable about your degree program, school and university policies and help guide your progress towards your degree.
- Be familiar with campus resources for students.
- Maintain confidentiality per the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
How to Meet with an Academic Counselor?
If you would like to meet with an Academic Counselor, you can stop by our office during walk-in hours or schedule an appointment.
Many questions can be answered during a walk-in. Appointments are for more complex situations. Your appointment may be canceled if your reason is the following: enrollment issues, prerequisite clearance, updating DegreeWorks, request for excess units, or graduation final degree check. These can be resolved during walk-in advising or by emailing our office.
