Step 2: Meet with Engineering Academic Advisors
Step 2: Meet with Engineering Academic Advisors to review how Studying Abroad will impact your plan of study.
- You will not be able to meet with an Engineering Advisor until you meet with UCI Study Abroad Center.
- Week 3-6 and Week 10 of each Quarter.
Step 3: Submit a Study Abroad Course Petition Forms
Step 3: Submit a Study Abroad Course Petition Form for each course you plan on taking abroad.
- For GE courses, compare the Study Abroad course to the description of the GE category.
- For Engineering courses, compare the Study Abroad Course description to the course description of your UCI engineering course requirement.

FAQ Engineering Students
Will studying abroad count towards the UCI residency requirement?
Yes, as confirmed by the UCI catalog and the UCI study abroad office, students studying abroad in a UCEAP program are considered “in-residence”. Click here for UCEAP Engineering Abroad or All UCEAP programs.
What if it’s not a UCEAP Program like an Independent Programs Study Option?
Students studying abroad on these programs must request an exception to the UCI Residence Requirement.
How long does it take for grades to post on my transcript?
2-3 months after the program end date.
